About the Role

The 4-H Program Educator provides overall leadership and direction for a county-based 4-H program within the Division of Extension Wisconsin 4-H Program. This position includes three primary roles: Program Administration, Volunteer Management, and Education and Youth Advocacy.

The main office is located in Alma, WI, with a primary programming focus on Buffalo County. Some programming may extend to a broader geographical area. This is an in-person position, requiring work to be performed onsite at a designated campus work location.

This position may require occasional evening and weekend work to meet program needs. Employees are expected to arrange their own transportation for periodic in-state travel and must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Read more about UW-Madison Driver Authorization.

Physical requirements include the ability to lift 15-20 pounds with assistance, stand for periods of time, and work outside, particularly at the local county fair.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and secure resources and communicate logistics in support of outreach programs.
  • Research, develop, and facilitate outreach program content and materials.
  • Identify, promote, and maintain external partnerships to support outreach programs.
  • Assist with monitoring outreach program budget spending.
  • Develop and evaluate curriculum and programs, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Deliver outreach program content and materials to community members.
  • Lead the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff, student, and community volunteers.

About The Institute: The Extension Institute of Positive Youth Development prepares youth to become effective, empathic adults. Our research-based youth enrichment programs, such as teens in governance, build youth and adult capacity. 4-H clubs, camps, and afterschool programs provide young people with hands-on experiences to develop self-understanding and life skills.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience working with youth, particularly in a programming capacity, as well as volunteer management.
  • Experience supporting youth development, educational, Extension, or volunteer-focused programs.
  • Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred:

  • Experience using enrollment, registration, event management, or customer relationship management (CRM) systems.
  • Experience creating newsletters, social media content, marketing materials, or website updates.

Pay

The minimum annual (12 months) starting salary for this position is $60,795 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
