3rd Shift Welder

About the role

Welders at Wabash play a key role in manufacturing carbon, stainless steel, and aluminum products and subassemblies. This position is crucial to the manufacturing process, requiring high-quality work while upholding production standards. Qualification Weld Tests are required, and Certification Tests may be needed depending on the product line. Applicants who do not pass the initial Weld Test can qualify by attending Wabash’s in-house Weld School and demonstrating proficiency after training.

Responsibilities

  • Own and help improve performance in Safety, Quality, and Delivery
  • Perform carbon steel, aluminum, and stainless steel MIG and/or TIG welding to meet quality standards
  • Read engineering prints, weld symbols, and follow specifications
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance for welding-related equipment
  • Work in tight spaces and at heights of 15-20 ft
  • Assist in different departments as assigned by supervisors or team leaders
  • Wear approved personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, respirators, and hearing protection
  • Complete duties in accordance with safety policies and practices, ensuring personal and co-worker safety

Tools & Equipment

Depending on the department and location, you may work with the following tools and equipment. Wabash provides all necessary training:

  • Oxy/Acetylene Torch
  • Engineering Prints and Work Instructions
  • Handheld Tools and Tape Measure
  • Hoist and Crane
  • MIG Welder (GMAW – including Pulse Transfer)
  • TIG Welder (GTAW)
  • Limited Stick Welder (SMAW)
  • Plasma Cutter / Gouging
  • Grinder / Sander
  • Respirator / ADF or PAPR Hood

Requirements

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Must pass Weld Tests associated with the product line before welding in production
  • Must pass a respirator fit test
  • Basic reading, writing, math, and verbal skills
  • Ability to follow and understand engineering prints, specifications, and instructions

Skills & Experience

Experience and education are a plus but not required. Wabash provides comprehensive training for all welding positions, including orientation and several days of preparation before starting on the production floor.

Working Conditions

The role involves exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. Employees may occasionally work in extreme conditions, including loud noise, high temperatures, and outdoor elements. All production floor employees must wear required PPE. Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, and handle controls for the entire shift
  • Full range of motion in arms and hands
  • Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees
  • Work in small spaces and frequently lift/carry objects up to 50 pounds
  • Close vision acuity, ability to adjust focus, and good hand-eye coordination
