About the role

Carter's Inc., the largest North American apparel retailer exclusively for babies and young children (encompassing Carter's, OshKosh B'gosh, Skip*Hop, and Little Planet brands), is seeking a Distribution Center Operations 3rd Shift Maintenance Tech Apprentice. This role involves working with experienced technicians to plan and coordinate maintenance and repair of conveyors, machines, and equipment while completing necessary training on basic maintenance functions.

Responsibilities

  • Work with experienced techs planning and coordinating the maintenance and repair of conveyors, machines and equipment
  • Complete necessary training on basic maintenance functions
  • Ensure that all work is done in accordance with OSHA regulations and Carter's safety rules
  • Maintain good housekeeping and work well with management, peers and subordinate employees to maximize productivity while minimizing employee conflict
  • Maintenance of facility property, including building grounds, HVAC, generators, sprinkler systems, security systems, and other facility systems
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • Must be able to use all routine industrial hand tools
  • Must have electrical knowledge
  • Must be able to read and use tape measures, levels, and similar measuring tools
  • Must be able to pass equipment training including scissor lift, stock picker, reach truck, pallet truck, and turret truck
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimal level of maintenance experience required
  • Must be able to lift 45 pounds individually and 100 pounds with team assistance
  • Must be able to walk and climb stairs
  • Must be able to use ladders
  • Must be available to work 14 consecutive days in a row during peak season
  • Must comply with Blackout Periods as determined by Management
  • Holiday schedule to be decided by Management based upon forecast
  • Six months automated distribution center experience preferred

Physical demands

  • Must be available to work in a multi-channel, multi-shift distribution environment, flexible to work different shifts and extended hours based upon business needs
  • Must be able to stand and work for long periods including daily overtime, holidays and overtime as required
  • Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward
  • Use approved equipment to access freight and equipment in elevated areas
  • May work with substances that require special handling
  • Must be able to repetitively lift cases weighing up to forty pounds
  • Must be able to work in varying to extreme temperatures
