3rd Shift Machine Assistant
About the role
The role of Machine Assistant at Pratt - Lewisburg Container Co. involves assisting the machine operator in running the assigned machine. Duties include accurate and efficient set-up, minimizing waste, maximizing equipment utilization, checking quality, completing reports, and making recommendations for operational improvements.
Responsibilities
- Accurate and efficient set-up of all folding and gluing operations of the machine in accordance with proper setup techniques.
- Minimize waste of sheet stock and glue.
- Properly operate machine to run efficiently and produce quality products.
- Maximize the utilization of equipment by operating the machinery at available capacity and speed.
- Learn to run a variety of box styles.
- Check quality of boxes during the run, including mis-slotted boxes, loose liner, misprints, and any other defects.
- Complete necessary reports in an accurate and timely manner, including but not limited to: Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, Quality Data.
- Turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs. Be proactive in the maintenance of equipment.
- Adhere to production schedule. Make recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality and service goals.
- Report any unusual scheduling issues to Supervisor.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
- Excellent attendance and organizational skills are a must.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED. Prior work experience in the corrugated industry is preferred. Excellent communication and mathematical skills are essential. Must have a working knowledge of equipment design and capabilities, product layouts, production specifications, and quality standards. May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.

Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret operating instructions, training and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively to employees, managers, and internal/external customers. Ability to listen effectively and provide positive and corrective feedback. Ability to apply high school math concepts. Ability to use a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Ability to calculate percentages, measurements, volumes, rates, and apply concepts of high school math. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in writing, orally, or face-to-face. Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
