Hours: 8:30 p.m. – 4:30 a.m., Monday–Friday and occasional Saturdays

Salary Range: $71,000 – $79,000 per year plus monthly gainshare

FLSA: Salaried, Exempt

About the role

The Corrugator Supervisor oversees approximately 7–14 employees in the daily operation of the corrugator, ensuring production of quality board in a safe, productive manner with minimal waste. A key aspect of this role involves cross-training employees in critical positions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety, quality, efficiency, and production levels set by management; communicate these standards to staff.
  • Report quality concerns to Plant Manager and Quality Manager; assist in determining quality guidelines.
  • Establish high morale within the department by showing fairness, consistency, and interest in employee problems; maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain inventories of roll stock and corrugator supplies.
  • Coordinate with other Corrugator Supervisors, Maintenance Manager, and Plant Manager on repairs or preventive maintenance.
  • Keep upper management informed of problems or situations that may affect department performance.
  • Enforce corrective action procedures when applicable and conduct meetings with employees.
  • Conduct weekly Production/Safety meetings with departmental personnel.
  • Communicate with necessary supervision to avoid problems between shift changes.
  • Improve career skills by enrolling in seminars, technical courses, and related college courses.
  • Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, safety program, and good housekeeping.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Directly supervise all employees assigned to the department, including training, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, conflict resolution, team building, coaching, and leading employees to improve.
  • Address complaints and resolve problems; document actions and set an example of superior behavior, attitude, and performance.
  • Flexibility to work occasional weekends as needed.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years prior supervisory experience.
  • Prior work experience in the corrugated industry preferred.
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume, and rate; apply concepts of high school math.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Working knowledge of equipment design and capabilities to support efficient operation and training of personnel.
  • Understanding of cost issues to make daily decisions that reduce overall costs and identify areas for improvement.
  • Knowledge of quality standards and regulatory requirements including wage and hour, environmental and waste minimization, company policies, and personnel requirements (OSHA, DEQ, EEO).
  • May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

  • Teaching skills to function effectively as a teacher for personnel in both technical and administrative aspects.

  • Excellent employee relations skills, including active listening, appraising personnel, applying positive and corrective feedback, resolving conflicts, and demonstrating positive motivational skills such as coaching and delegation.
