Reports To: Foreman

Overview

Under the supervision of the foreman, the journeyman must maintain, repair and install electrical systems and services effectively as per drawings and work cohesively with team members to complete projects.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Install new, and/or repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
• Install and/or repair control and distribution apparatus, including motors, relays, switches, thermostats, and circuit breaker panels.
• Install and/or connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment following diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
• Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits using testing instruments.
• Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduit, using measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader and conduit bender.
• Receive and complete work orders.
• Select material and hardware and make time and material estimates.
• Inspect jobs after completion and ensure areas are clean.
• Operate tools and equipment in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
• Correct any unsafe conditions and report any conditions that are not correctable to foreman immediately.
• Mentor apprentices and teach them the skills of the trade.

Qualifications

• Valid Journeyman license
• Maintain a valid Ontario college of trades certificate
• Ability to supervise and guide apprentices
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
• Valid G driver’s license
• Ability to work power equipment
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and written reference manuals effectively
• Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations
• Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
