Summary
The Trailer Technician Level 3 is responsible for the inspection, service, repair and preventative maintenance of the various types of ATS owned trailers by using ATS and industry standard methods and criteria to ensure the trailer is safe to be on the road. Functions of this position include:
- Inspecting, diagnosing, replacing and repairing brake systems ABS, electrical components, steering systems, multi-axle alignments, hydraulic systems, welding / fabrication of steel and aluminum and related equipment.
Education and Experience
- Two year AAS Degree in medium/heavy truck diesel program and/or a minimum 1 to 3 years of equivalent experience in related field e.g., automotive, medium/heavy equipment, trailer repair, etc. and experience in cutting and welding is preferred.
- Two year AAS Degree in medium/heavy truck diesel program and/or a minimum 3+ years of equivalent experience in related field e.g., automotive, medium/heavy equipment, trailer repair, etc. and experience in cutting and welding is preferred. Two years plus in welding Mig/Aluminum
- Two year AAS Degree in medium/heavy truck diesel program and/or a minimum 5+ years of equivalent experience in related field e.g., automotive, medium/heavy equipment, trailer repair, etc. and experience in cutting and welding is preferred. Must have 4+ years of experience MIG/Aluminum Welding
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform inspections on incoming (Safety Lane) and outgoing company owned trailers using ATS, DOT, and OSHA guidelines to ensure the trailer is operating safely and efficiently.
- Complete DOT inspections on outgoing trailers to verify that all necessary repairs have been made.
- Ensure safety procedures are implemented and followed and PPE is used at all times.
- Move tractors and trailers in and out of the shop for maintenance.
- Inspects and perform all minor and major trailer maintenance including welding, tire replacement, pressure checks, brakes, lights, and safety equipment and submits reports indicating condition of equipment.
- Weld metal to repair parts or fabricate replacement parts.
- Open repair orders and charge out all parts used on trucks and trailers.
- Participate in online OEM training.
- Remain technically proficient in all areas of the shop including trailer, tire, and basic parts.
- Utilize appropriate resources, such as the parts manual and computer, service bulletins and other resources to research problems, determine most effective and efficient method for repair.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and take appropriate actions, recommend process changes, and initiate improvements.
- Be a positive role model for all team members providing support and enthusiasm - creating a professional, positive work environment.
- Performs shop clean-up and housekeeping responsibilities as well as other miscellaneous related duties as assigned.
- Maintain all required certifications and licenses.
- Meet all ATS and department objectives and deadlines.
- Follow all ATS and department policies and procedures.
- Works within budget that is set for the department.
