About the role

The Advanced Machinist operates and assists with programming production machines, ensuring product quality, and providing expertise in machining operations. This role requires a high level of skill and autonomy, with the ability to troubleshoot and make decisions independently.

Responsibilities

  • Power up machines, zero return axis to the home position, and assist with set up on machines for production runs.
  • Follow and develop quality procedures, identify all dimensions established at the machining operation, and check established dimensions using the in-process inspection sheet.
  • Make precise offsets to tools or work positions to achieve dimensionally acceptable products.
  • Understand and meet surface finish requirements, change tools as needed to maintain the finish, and optimize machining parameters.
  • Utilize and maintain shop travelers in production to verify correct material, size, quantity, and any additional notes or work instructions that differ from the customer print.
  • Execute and refine start-up procedures following machine crashes or major tool breakages, minimizing downtime.
  • Support and lead workplace organization efforts, including removing and storing fixtures, vices, and stops after jobs, replacing tooling and small tools in designated areas, and maintaining clean and organized workstations.
  • Follow and improve procedures for time reporting and scrap reporting via data collection to provide accurate job costing data.
  • Adhere to and enforce prescribed safety procedures.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior machinists and provide technical support to the production team.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to develop and implement new machining techniques and processes.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
  • Eyesight and hearing must be correctable to standard level.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs and up to 50 lbs on a daily basis.
  • Ability to stand for a minimum of 8 hours and up to 12 hours per day.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Previous machining experience.
  • Blueprint reading.
  • Understanding and application of GD&T.
