About the role
The Mill Technician I is an integral part of the team, responsible for grain testing and the manual addition of feed ingredients following operating procedures. This role also introduces inventory management, equipment maintenance, repair, and housekeeping activities. Compliance with company policies and all relevant regulations is required.
Responsibilities
- Perform grain testing, including DON testing, dockage, moisture, bushel weight, foreign material, and auto/manual truck probing.
- Execute "hand-adds" — the manual addition of feed ingredients — and accurately record medication and vitamin usage.
- Develop a basic understanding of animal nutrition and ingredient interactions in milling and grinding processes.
- Clean and perform routine housekeeping of the mill.
- Handle general mechanical duties as needed.
- Navigate and use systems such as Laserfiche, The Wenger System, and WEM.
- Maintain bag inventories in a stacked and orderly manner.
- Complete required training in a timely manner.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Mill Manager, Mill Supervisor, or Mill Shift Supervisor.
Requirements
- Ability to work independently and under close supervision.
- Understanding and adherence to Food Safety Standards (FSMA, SQF) and state regulations.
- Basic math and critical thinking skills.
- Positive attitude and basic computer skills.
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Ability to work efficiently, collaboratively, and adapt to change.
- Commitment to safe behavior and adherence to policies and procedures.
- General mechanical ability.

- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. repeatedly and up to 100 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to climb ladders and work in high places, confined spaces, and dusty conditions.
- A minimum of one (1) year in Level I is required to develop skills for Level II.

Pay
- 2nd and 3rd shift positions are eligible for a $2/hour shift differential.
- Weekend shift positions are eligible for a $3/hour shift differential.
- Potential for a yearly bonus based on company goal achievement.
