2nd Shift Maintenance Technicians

About the Role

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining plant equipment and systems to ensure highest operating efficiencies. This role requires mechanical and electrical skills, independent problem-solving, and flexibility to adapt to changing duties, including shift work and additional hours as needed.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, troubleshoot, and maintain all plant equipment and systems to repair or rebuild for efficient operations.
• Rebuild or repair plant vacuum pumps, gearboxes, valves, steam regulating valves, pneumatic cylinder controls, and other types of pumps.
• Repair forklifts and other material handling equipment.
• Perform maintenance and preventative maintenance (P.M.) on CIP systems, AZO systems, mixing/dryer systems, chemical injection systems, air compressors, boiler systems, city water systems, ammonia systems, packaging, and handling equipment.
• Conduct industrial electrical testing and troubleshooting, including 4-20 milliamps, 12/24/48/120/240/480-volt circuits, pressure/selector switches, float switches, relays, and motor components.
• Repair and maintain packaging systems, pressure systems, boiler equipment, process systems, and fixtures according to manufacturer specifications and company standards.
• Observe equipment performance, evaluate issues, and make informed repair/replacement decisions.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance using internal systems and equipment specifications.
• Fabricate equipment following piping/equipment diagrams and specifications.
• Obtain and maintain knowledge from manufacturer/equipment manuals to complete maintenance tasks.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
• Work safely and professionally, adhering to all company guidelines.
• Assist with internal plant projects and system installations.
• Perform accurate calibrations on equipment, including PLCs, valves, and sensors.
• Demonstrate proficiency in mechanical rebuilding, including valves, pumps, and major equipment overhauls.
• Troubleshoot and repair defects in boilers, city water systems, ammonia/pressure systems, air compressors, canning/packaging, and dryer operations.
• Diagnose and repair equipment in plant operational areas, such as powder conveying systems, heat exchangers, Reverse Osmosis systems, and packaging operations.
• Use electrical testing equipment, volt/amp meters, and advanced industrial electrical knowledge to troubleshoot and repair machinery malfunctions.
• Read and interpret piping layouts, construction diagrams, equipment specifications, and troubleshooting charts.
• Weld stainless steel, aluminum, and mild steel according to government and company specifications.
• Communicate effectively with Maintenance Manager/Supervisor, Plant Engineering, Operations Management, and external vendors.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• GED or equivalent.
• Must pass a written test with a score of 75% or higher to qualify for the position.
• Must satisfactorily pass the Department of Agriculture (DOA) assessment within one year of passing the written test.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions, write clearly, and communicate effectively with internal teams and external vendors.
• Self-disciplined, team-oriented, and capable of handling emergency situations.
• Must maintain personal cleanliness and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and exhibit independent problem-solving skills.

Skills

• Advanced mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair.
• Proficiency in rebuilding valves, pumps, and major equipment.
• Experience with industrial electrical systems, including PLCs, sensors, and high-voltage circuits.
• Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, piping layouts, and equipment specifications.
• Welding skills for stainless steel, aluminum, and mild steel.
• Knowledge of plant systems, including boilers, ammonia systems, air compressors, and packaging equipment.

Working Conditions

• Continuous physical activity, including climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and moving objects up to 50 lbs.
• Routine climbing of stairs and use of equipment such as computers, drafting tools, and scientific measuring devices.
• Exposure to plant environments with varying temperatures, noise levels, and proximity to moving mechanical parts.
• Potential exposure to chemicals, wet/slippery floors, live steam, and steam-heated water.
• Required use of safety equipment, including safety glasses, shoes, respirators, and gloves.
• Occasional work in confined spaces.
