About the role
This is a full-time, 2nd shift position in a multi-channel distribution center. The Maintenance Tech Apprentice will work alongside experienced technicians to maintain and repair conveyors, machines, and facility equipment while adhering to OSHA and Carter’s safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate maintenance and repair of conveyors, machines, and equipment with experienced technicians.
- Complete training on basic maintenance functions.
- Ensure all work complies with OSHA regulations and Carter’s safety rules.
- Maintain good housekeeping and collaborate with management, peers, and subordinate employees to maximize productivity and minimize conflict.
- Maintain facility property, including building grounds, HVAC, generators, sprinkler systems, and security systems.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to use routine industrial hand tools.
- Basic electrical knowledge.
- Ability to read and use tape measures, levels, and similar tools.
- Must pass equipment training for scissor lift, stock picker, reach truck, pallet truck, and turret truck.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimal level of maintenance experience.
- Ability to lift 45 pounds individually and 100 pounds with team assistance.
- Ability to walk, climb stairs, and use ladders.
- Must be available to work 14 consecutive days during peak season.
- Must comply with blackout periods (no vacation or personal time) as determined by management.
- Flexibility to work different shifts, extended hours, holidays, and overtime as required by business needs.
- Ability to work in varying to extreme temperatures.
- Six months of automated distribution center experience preferred but not required.
Physical Demands
- Must stand and work for long periods, including daily overtime.
- Requires intermittent periods of continuous physical exertion, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, and lifting heavy or awkward materials/equipment.
- Must use approved equipment to access freight and equipment in elevated areas.
- May work with substances requiring special handling.
- Must repetitively lift cases weighing up to 40 pounds.
Schedule
- 2nd shift, full-time position.
- Holiday schedule determined by management based on forecast.
- Must be available to work consecutive days in a row (e.g., 14+ days during peak season).
