2Nd Shift Industrial Painter
About the role
We are seeking a Coating Specialist (Industrial Painter) – 2nd Shift to partner with our experienced production team in a factory setting. This position involves prep, spray paint, and foam insulation of miscellaneous parts and products, primarily steel components. The role is on the second shift (4:00 pm to 12:30 am with a dinner period). New hires must train on day shift for a short period before transferring to second shift.
Responsibilities
- Observe all safety rules and regulations and keep work area clean and orderly.
- Work from verbal instructions, factory orders, and established practices.
- Clean material with solvent cleaner, etching solution, or paint stripping caustic.
- Move material with hoists or wagon.
- Mask off areas not to be painted or to be painted a different color.
- Prepare paint and thin to correct consistency and temperature.
- Strain paint before using.
- Clean, repair, and adjust guns and pots.
- Move material and position for painting; touch up with brush or gun as required.
- Occasionally use stencils.
- Perform some maintenance painting from ground ladder or scaffold.
- Report abnormal conditions of equipment to supervisor.
- Prepare miscellaneous parts and products for foaming by masking off and covering areas to be foamed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Second Shift Supervisor.
- Keep work area neat and clean.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
- Previous commercial painting experience preferred.
- Ability to read work orders and understand units of measurement.
- Good attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to perform simple, repetitive tasks.
- Experience operating forklift, electric hoist, spray gun, mixing equipment, and various small tools.
Physical Requirements
- Required to sit, stand, and walk.
- Use hands or fingers to feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Frequent stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing.
- Reach with hands and arms.
- Required to talk and hear consistently.
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and/or drag up to 100 pounds if necessary.
- Specific vision abilities required include distinguishing the nature of objects by using the eye.
- Ability to ascend and descend two flights of stairs.
- Ability to wear appropriate PPE including eyeglasses, earplugs, and steel-toe shoes.
