About the role

The Machining Relief Supervisor primarily assists the on-duty shift supervisor with meeting daily production requirements, assessing and assigning work, planning, training, and special projects. This role provides coverage for the Shift Supervisor as needed and monitors work activities, coaching and instructing personnel on machine setup, operations, and troubleshooting. The individual must be capable of performing machine setup and operation unassisted and possess strong organizational, math, communication, and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist shift supervisor with meeting daily production requirements
• Assess and assign day’s work and labor appropriately
• Monitor work activities, coach, instruct, and assist personnel with machine setup, operations, and troubleshooting
• Perform machine setup and operation as needed
• Provide coverage for Shift Supervisor, maintaining safe operations and proper staffing
• Prioritize daily activities to ensure timely shipment of quality products
• Perform special projects, planning, training, and work with outside vendors
• Maintain production documentation and ensure proper workmanship
• Load and unload parts, change inserts, make wear offsets, and maintain coolant/lubrication levels
• Wash down inside of machines and clean work area
• Set up machines with proven programs, including tool and fixture installation, tool setting, and program transfers
• Establish work offsets, obtain first articles, and edit programs or create fixturing as needed
• Perform first article inspections and use measuring instruments (e.g., caliper, micrometer, CMM)
• Read and interpret blueprints, including GD&T and tolerances
• Use PC and MS software, ERP systems, and databases proficiently
• Follow safety and security policies, report unsafe conditions, and maintain a safe work environment
• Mentor and train employees, recognize process improvements, and resolve problems

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum 2-year related leadership experience or training
• Minimum 5-year related machining experience or training
• Ability to read and interpret safety policies, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
• Strong communication skills and ability to carry out instructions in any form
• Basic math abilities (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
• Proficiency in machine operation, setup, and troubleshooting
• Ability to perform first article inspections and use measuring instruments (e.g., caliper, micrometer, CMM)
• Blueprint reading skills, including GD&T and tolerances
• Computer skills, including MS software, ERP systems, and databases
• Personal hand tools and measuring instruments (see tool list below)

Pay

$33.09/hour plus a 4.5% shift premium. Eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus: $1,000 after successful completion of the orientation period and $1,000 after one year of employment.

Schedule

Regularly scheduled hours: 3:30 PM - 12:00 AM, Monday through Friday. Overtime may be required, including adjustments to shift start/end times and Saturdays.
