About the Role

As a CNC Set Up Trainee, you will have an active role in properly performing tasks related to machine set up, including removal and installation of tools, tool setting, tool offsets, and program movements. You must be able to read, follow, and comprehend work instructions and blueprints. Personal hand tools and measuring instruments are required.

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum six months related experience and/or training
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety policies, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out instructions given in any form
• Ability to deal effectively with routine problems and situations

Responsibilities

• Attendance: Be at work for scheduled hours, at workstation on time and ready to work

• Machine Operation: Load and unload parts, change inserts/tooling, adjust wear offsets, measure parts, run jobs within quality and efficiency expectations, maintain coolant level, maintain lubrication oil, grease fixtures, wash down machine interior, clean work area, complete production documentation, perform tool testing and document results
• Machine Set Up (primary assigned machine(s)): Learn removal and installation of tools and fixtures, perform tool setting and tool offsets, transfer programs to/from machine control, follow program movements, determine and establish work offsets, obtain first article, create general work holding (soft jaws), perform machine set up with assistance, select tooling, make minor program edits, indicate jaws, fixtures, and tooling
• Mathematical Skills: Basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division); learn to calculate speed (RPM/SFM), feed (IPM/IPR), chip load, and taper
• Quality: Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, identify that surface finishes are met, measure parts correctly, ensure specifications are met, visually inspect parts to standards
• Quantity: Meet productivity standards, complete work in allotted time, strive to increase productivity
• Measuring Ability: Proper use of caliper, micrometer, machinist scale, functional gages, height stand
• Blueprints: Read blueprint dimensioning, interpret information, apply tolerances as defined, basic knowledge of GD&T
• Computer Use: Standard PC and MS software, essential elements of current ERP system, current databases
• Safety: Follow safety policies and procedures, wear PPE, report unsafe conditions, use equipment and materials properly, assist in organizing and maintaining the machine shop environment
• Security: Follow security policies and procedures

Work Environment

• Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles
