27-006 Seasonal Maintenance Worker, SFT

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in the maintenance of Recreation facilities & parks.
• Perform minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting and other unskilled trades work.
• Perform custodial work such as required and assigned.
• Plant and maintain lawns, trees, shrubs and flowers.
• Support turf-management efforts which may involve seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering of the City’s cemeteries, parks, open spaces and athletic fields.
• Aid in maintaining and adjusting specialized turf care equipment and tools, including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems.
• Collect and dispose of solid waste from buildings and grounds; pick up litter from premises.
• Familiar with and execute safe work procedures associated with assigned work.
• Aid in snow removal operations and mitigate the effects of natural and man-made disasters.
• Perform general landscaping, lawn mowing, weed-whacking, and related tasks.
• Perform other related duties, as required.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements

• Some knowledge of, and the ability to use simple hand tools.
• Knowledge of construction, electrical procedures and techniques.
• Ability to perform simple and routine manual labor.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to use office equipment, computers and communications equipment.

Education/Licenses/Certifications Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age, with a minimum High School diploma preferred.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Some experience in maintenance of grounds and/or lawn mowing experience.
• Any combination of education and experience, which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
