About the Role

The Campus Security Guard ensures the safety and welfare of students during classroom and non-classroom activities, minimizes harmful incidents, and communicates observations or incidents that may impact the well-being of students, staff, or visitors.

Work year: 158 days. Department: School Culture, Wellness, and Safety. Reports to: Building Principal. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor hallways, classrooms, stairwells, and the entire building.
  • Oversee student and staff parking lots.
  • Direct visitors to appropriate destinations and escort intruders off campus, involving law enforcement when necessary.
  • Maintain order on campus using appropriate measures.
  • Escort students to/from class or campus as directed by administrators or teachers.
  • Prevent damage to school, staff, and student property.
  • Assist School Resource Officers (SROs) in checking lockers for illegal items (drugs, alcohol, weapons, stolen property).
  • Issue parking violations and report off-campus activities that may endanger student welfare.
  • Assist during fire drills or emergency evacuations by clearing and checking the building.
  • Support classroom teachers with disruptive students.
  • Witness student searches conducted by building administrators for weapons or illegal drugs.
  • Maintain "zero tolerance" for gang-related activity.
  • Detain students involved in criminal activity until law enforcement arrives.
  • Assist in investigations of inappropriate behavior.
  • Deliver messages to teachers and students.
  • Attend District-provided in-service training.
  • Supervise after-school and in-house detentions, classrooms without substitutes, and school buses for field trips.
  • Issue lockers to students and maintain records.
  • Direct students to return to school from off-campus locations.
  • Escort students to in-school exclusion and obtain their schoolwork.
  • Perform first aid as trained.
  • Collaborate with police officers.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by School Administration.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of security experience and/or training in a security-related position.
  • Must obtain and maintain CPR and First-Aid Certification within 3 months of employment.
  • Must obtain and maintain Crisis Preventative Intervention (CPI) training certification within 3 months of employment.
  • Must pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check and be cleared by the Office of Human Resources.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous military or police experience.
  • Experience working in a public school setting.
  • Experience with youth or school-age programs.
  • Knowledge of District rules and regulations regarding student conduct and visitation privileges.
  • Spanish-speaking skills.

  • Ability to intervene in physical altercations or restrain individuals.
  • Knowledge and application of behavioral management techniques with consistency and good judgment.

  • Knowledge of District and school policies and procedures.
  • Basic computer skills, including word processing.
  • Professional work attitude with initiative and responsibility for project completion.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • Ability to make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Pay

Salary follows the Security Guard Salary Schedule.

Benefits

Fringe benefits are based on the PESPA Negotiated Agreement.
