About the role
This position serves as a Class Size Teacher's Assistant in Norman Public Schools. If hired, candidates must apply for Tier 1 certification prior to the start of employment, with a certification fee of $12.00 payable to the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Personnel will provide detailed instructions during the employee processing phase.
Responsibilities
- Aid in instruction and activities as directed by the teacher.
- Supervise students in various settings, including instructional, off-campus, and non-instructional activities.
- Occasionally supervise students in the teacher's absence.
- Create, adapt, or prepare instructional materials as directed by the teacher.
- Prepare and maintain bulletin boards and teaching aids.
- Assist students with assignments and operate instructional equipment.
- Provide information and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Support teachers with student behavior management strategies and respond to student needs.
- Grade student work, record grades, take attendance, and complete paperwork and student records.
- Assist with personal care needs and minor first aid as required.
- Perform housekeeping duties, including cleaning, preparing snacks, and assisting with feeding students.
- Ride the afternoon bus route to supervise student behavior.
- Operate photocopiers, laminators, duplicators, and computers as needed.
- Aid teachers in obtaining supplies for scheduled activities.
- Compile students' work to send home weekly in Thursday folders.
- Send letters home to parents as required.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Associate degree or completion of 2 years of post-secondary education, or high school graduation and passing a PARAPRO or OGET test.
- Previous work or volunteer experience with children, teenagers, and/or clerical experience preferred.
