About the role

This position creates a developmentally appropriate pre-kindergarten program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. It involves establishing an effective rapport with students, families, staff members, and outside community agencies. The role motivates students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge necessary for elementary school success.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and evaluates daily classroom activities to ensure they are developmentally appropriate and reflective of the class’s diversity and culture.
  • Supports and develops plans related to individual children’s goals.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with parents/guardians through both written and verbal means.
  • Identifies student needs, makes appropriate referrals, and develops strategies for individual education plans.
  • Maintains confidentiality related to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Attends required preschool workshops, trainings, and meetings as required by the Arizona Department of Health Services and the District.
  • Sets student goals and monitors and evaluates student progress using district recommended techniques.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must provide documentation of one of the following:
    • Be 18 years of age or older and have three years of child care experience and a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma;
    • Be 18 years of age or older, have one year of child care experience and at least 12 credit hours from an accredited college or university, including at least six credit hours in early childhood, child development, or a closely-related field;
    • Have an associate or bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, child development, or a closely-related field;
    • Be National Administrator Credential (N.A.C.), Child Development Association (C.D.A), or Child Care Professional (C.C.P) credentialed.
  • Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification from an accredited agency.
  • Pass a negative Mantoux TB Skin Test administered within 12 months of hire date or a health care provider's written and dated statement stating incumbent is free from infectious active TB issued within 6 months of hire date.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Food Handler's card.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).

  • Knowledge of reading and interpreting general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
  • Business math concepts.
  • Preschool learning programs for children ages 2-5.
  • Standard practices, methods, and materials of assigned work.
  • Filing and record-keeping principles.
  • Uses and properties of supplies and equipment.
  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations.
  • Customer service principles.
  • Principles and practices of conflict resolution.
  • Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.
  • Modern office technology.
  • Preschool learning programs for children ages 3-5.
