About the role
Assist the Special Education Teacher with the implementation of Specialized Programs as well as Individual Education Plan (IEP) for students with various types of disabilities and assist students with disabilities in general education curriculum on a continuum of services.
Responsibilities
- Participates in planning activities/work assignments for specialized programs, preschool, and/or individual students.
- Assists the teacher in the carry out activities/work assignments for students for specialized programs, preschool, and/or individual students.
- For specialized programs, assists in the implementation of the district program with fidelity.
- For paraprofessionals assigned to individual students, implements services as outlined in the IEP and directed by supervising staff.
- Follows a lesson plan, chart or guide created by the teacher.
- Consults frequently with staff about the needs, suggestions, questions, problems and progress of the students.
- Maintains all aspects and provisions of confidentiality related to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Aids in the implementation and maintaining classroom and behavior management.
- Maintains adequate and legible records concerning students whom they support.
- Aids the teacher with preparation of instructional materials.
- Attends district professional development classes.
- Participates in the Medicaid reimbursement program which includes maintaining logs on students and attending scheduled training.
- Aids students with activities of daily living, to include hygiene, toileting/diapering, eating/tubing, transfers, mobility, positioning and assistive devices (communicative devices, standers, lifters, braces).
- Establishes and maintains good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
- Aids the teacher in classroom and behavior management.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- AA degree OR 60 college credit hours OR successful completion of Dysart approved exam.
- Obtain and maintain Adult and Child First Aid/CPR certification from an accredited agency (must be in person certification; online training is not acceptable).
- Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
- Possess a negative Mantoux TB Skin Test administered within 12 months of hire date or a health care provider's written and dated statement stating incumbent is free from infectious active TB issued within 6 months of hire date.
- Obtain and maintain a valid Food Handlers card.
