26-27 School Bus Driver (PT)

St. Catherine's School is seeking part-time School Bus Drivers for the 9-month academic year. Applicants with a Class A or Class B CDL, Passenger and Air Brake endorsements, and a minimum of three years' driving experience are preferred.

About the role

This is an hourly, non-exempt, part-time position. Evening and weekend work may be required. Employment is subject to a successful background check and physical evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Drive a school transportation vehicle along prescribed routes in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students at designated stops
• Coordinate with Athletics to transport athletes to and from local and distance sports events
• Transport students and teachers on field trips, planning necessary routes and stops as needed
• Operate a special ramp bus, including loading and unloading students in wheelchairs, inspecting wheelchairs for operational safety, operating the ramp, and securing wheelchairs in the bus
• Maintain order of student passengers according to school policy
• Perform pre-trip vehicle inspections and ensure the bus is fueled and ready 15 minutes prior to departure
• Complete daily time sheets and mileage reports
• Conduct daily safety and operational inspections of the assigned vehicle and report needed mechanical repairs
• Service buses with gas, diesel fuel, and oil; check and fill tires and batteries as necessary
• Perform periodical safety drills as required by law and complete necessary reports
• Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle to ensure safe operating condition
• Attend meetings regarding safety, first aid, and training updates as required
• Participate in driver training programs to maintain current knowledge of Virginia Motor Vehicle Code
• Operate a two-way radio and follow route directions (GPS or written)
• Complete annual physical requirements and maintain a reputable driving background (no air brakes restriction)
• Perform related duties as required

Requirements

• Valid Virginia Driver's License
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements preferred
• One or more years of bus driving experience
• Two or more years of experience working with children preferred
• Clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic citations within the last five years
• Must be able to work various shifts

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to:

• Sit, stand, walk, use hands to grasp, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls
• Reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
• Talk, hear, and engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and outdoors
• Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds
• Possess specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
• Become CPR and First Aid Certified

Occasional overnight and out-of-area travel may be required for special events.
