About the role
A 26-27 Special Education Science Teacher position is available. Credentials required include a current Oklahoma Certificate as a Special Education Teacher and a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education. Reports to building administrators.
Responsibilities
- Initiate/Participate in categorical eligibility meetings as an expert in a category of IDEA-BPL 101-746.
- Ensure each child has a current IEP with required signatures.
- Maintain and implement IEPs.
- Create and maintain a special education file containing teacher assessments, IEPs, psychological evaluations, and medical information.
- Provide advice on special education issues to the building principal.
- Offer in-service sessions to regular education staff on classroom inclusion, intervention, and modification techniques.
- Collaborate with regular education staff on classroom expectations and dynamics.
- Assist students with prescribed medication, lift and/or move non-ambulatory students, and adapt food and assist in feeding students.
- Present a professional appearance and display a knowledge of multicultural issues.
- Perform teaching and reporting requirements as per state and federal programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Requirements
- Knowledge of English language, mathematics, and communication skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to interpret and translate facts and information, explain situations and issues, identify alternative courses of action, and maintain confidentiality.
- Skills in deductive reasoning, near vision, mathematical reasoning, and problem sensitivity.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of special education laws and regulations.
- Experience in implementing IEPs and providing in-service sessions.
- Ability to collaborate with regular education staff and provide support to students.
- Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, moving students, and assisting with feeding.
- Knowledge of multicultural issues and the ability to create a supportive learning environment.
