About the role

This position serves as a paraprofessional in Norman Public Schools, assisting teachers and supervising students.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in instruction and activities as directed by teachers.
  • Supervise students in various settings including instructional, off-campus, and non-instructional activities.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for substitute teachers.
  • Assist with student behavior management and respond to student needs.
  • Provide assistance with special needs such as feeding and personal care.
  • Supervise students during transportation and perform light housekeeping tasks.
  • Prepare snacks, compile student work, and assist with obtaining supplies.
  • Operate office equipment and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (minimum of 48 hours of college coursework), obtained an associate's degree (or higher), or passed the WorkKeys, ParaPro, or Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET).
  • Oklahoma Special Education Paraprofessional Certificate or willingness to complete Tier 2 requirements within 120 days of employment.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous work or volunteer experience with children, teenagers, or clerical duties preferred.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required. College hours are preferred and may assist in meeting Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements.
  • Training/Experience: Must meet Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements and have previous work or volunteer experience with children, teenagers, or clerical duties.
