26-27 AY Temporary Faculty Pool (Lecturer) - Social Work Education

About the Role

The Social Work Education department seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate and graduate courses such as Quantitative Research, Program Evaluation, Field Instructional Practice, or other classes identified to fulfill educational goals. Temporary faculty members are responsible for adhering to university and system-wide policies, preparing and delivering lectures, conducting office hours, assigning and grading coursework, and administering exams. All classes must be offered as scheduled in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid) throughout the entire semester.

This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as needed. Appointments are contingent upon budget, enrollment considerations, and the collective bargaining agreement's "Order of Work" provisions. Positions are temporary, often filled just prior to the start of the academic term, and may require availability to begin teaching on short notice. The pool remains in place for two academic terms; those interested in remaining beyond that time must reapply.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to and implement university and system-wide academic policies.
• Prepare, deliver, and proctor lectures, assignments, quizzes, projects, and exams.
• Hold office hours and provide grading as appropriate.
• Ensure classes meet as scheduled in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid) for the entire semester.

Requirements

• A Master's degree in Social Work or a closely related field from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.
• Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Qualifications

• Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experiences, evaluations, or other documentation.
• Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level.

Pay

Compensation is based on qualifications and experience within the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code = 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers). The salary range for Temporary Faculty with a Master's degree is $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are typically at or near the minimum of the range. Actual monthly salary is adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per academic term.

Schedule

Anticipated semesters for appointments:

• Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
• Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027

The number of positions varies each semester based on department needs and student enrollment.
