About the Role
This position is responsible for keeping assigned building(s) clean, safe, functional, and secure in accordance with prescribed codes and established District policies and standards. Critical areas include the maintenance of all assigned building(s) in a state of operational excellence such that they present no interruptions, distractions, or obstacles to the education program.
Responsibilities
- Perform minor maintenance repairs in the routine operation of the facilities.
- Basic knowledge of all facility systems, allowing for the daily operation and reporting of needed repairs in writing to the Director of Buildings and Grounds.
- Maintenance of school grounds adjacent to the facilities.
- Daily custodial cleaning of facilities as assigned.
- Supervision of duties assigned to custodians.
- Ordering and inventory of supplies and equipment needed for daily cleaning.
- Routine summer cleaning of facilities as assigned.
- Substitute for custodial staff as assigned, to include all routine custodial duties.
- Prioritize duties to address emergencies as needed.
- Move materials from one facility to another as required.
- Unload and load supplies, materials, and equipment as required.
- Perform routine monthly check-ins with each assigned custodian during their regular shift.
- Attend meetings as directed.
- Adherence to all Custodial Department requirements.
- Encourage a positive, mutually supportive work environment.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Buildings and Grounds and/or Building Administrator.
Requirements
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written and verbal information.
- Ability to calculate figures using standard monetary denominations; ability to apply standard concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Able to solve practical problems and deal with several variables at once; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Perform duties with awareness of all District requirements.
- A high school diploma or equivalent or 3 months related experience and/or training is required.
- The following clearances must be provided upon hire and updated every five years in accordance with Act 153: PA State Police- Act 34, Child Abuse-Act 151, and FBI Fingerprint-Act 114.
- Child Abuse training (or proof of completion) in accordance with Act 126 upon hire and repeated every five years thereafter.
- A negative TB test is required upon hire.
Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands
- Sitting <5%, walking/standing 95-100%.
- Regular lifting up to 25 lbs. and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Reaching with hands and arms, bending, crouching.
- Vision: Normal; close vision, color vision, and ability to focus.
- Mental Demands: Ability to interpret, analyze, and problem solve written and verbal communications.
- Environment: Moderate noise level; hot, cold, dry, wet conditions, dust, caustic/harmful chemicals, and/or indoor and outdoor conditions.
- Employee must be able to accomplish the performance responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation.
Supervision
This position is directly responsible to the Director of Buildings and Grounds.
