26-112; Maintenance Worker II; Maintenance; 1.0 FTE; Probationary

1.0 FTE / 8 hours per day. FLSA Non-Exempt. Reports to the Director of Maintenance.

About the role

Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, construction, and repair of buildings, equipment, and grounds throughout the District. Specialized skills in welding, fabricating, lock changing, and irrigation systems are required. May supervise the District’s grounds-keeping program and coordinate the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. Works with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Follows and maintains knowledge of all applicable District policies and procedures.
• Performs routine maintenance duties throughout the District.
• Applies general knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, irrigation, small engine upkeep, District vehicle maintenance, and carpentry.
• Cares for equipment, including cleaning and maintaining brushes, tools, and other equipment.
• Makes repairs and adjustments to plumbing equipment and irrigation systems, such as replacing broken pipes, cleaning plugged drains, flushing irrigation lines, and replacing sprinklers, washers, and gaskets.
• Cleans drains, gutters, and roofs.
• Performs routine maintenance on equipment and determines when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
• Estimates the scope of each work assignment and secures necessary tools and materials to complete the assignment.
• Performs minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment.
• Repairs doors, walls, ceilings, latches, locks, bleachers, lockers, and fences.
• Performs plumbing, carpentry, and painting as necessary or requested to maintain buildings effectively.
• May respond after hours in the event of an emergency.
• Performs safety inspections and writes reports.
• Implements decisions within District-established policies and procedures while working collaboratively with others.
• Professionally represents the school and District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students, resolving conflict in a professional manner.
• Works collaboratively with District and building administrators and other department staff to provide reliable service to customers.
• Communicates clearly with coworkers and other staff.
• Participates as an effective team member and provides impeccable customer service.
• Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, administrators, and parents.
• Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
• Attends work regularly and is punctual.
• Annually passes the District’s required online training by the assigned due date.

Marginal Duties

• Answers telephone and checks email for staff requests.
• Assists custodial departments as necessary.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

All school employees share responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required. Associate’s degree or other technical training strongly preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Thorough working knowledge of maintenance methods, materials, and equipment equivalent to three years of experience.
• Previous experience in maintenance positions preferred.
• Works well with others from diverse backgrounds and interacts appropriately with students and staff.
• Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English, including reading and interpreting safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical operations, including computing rate, ratio, percent, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, schedule, or diagram form, and deal with problems involving several variables.
• General knowledge of computer usage, including interface with computer-operated control systems and basic work order software.
• Ability to communicate appropriately with students, teachers, parents, community members, and vendors.

Certifications and Licenses

• Certificates as determined by the District.
• May hold a license in one of the following: Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, or any other trade relevant to the maintenance field.
• Must obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card, Oregon Driver License, and Aerial Lift License.
• Must maintain a good driving record.
• Previous hazardous communication and asbestos training preferred.

• Regularly climbs ladders and building structures to make repairs and crawls through tunnels.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
• Must demonstrate strength and dexterity to operate maintenance tools and machinery.

Pay

$21.28 - $26.08 per hour.
