Position Summary

The YMCA of Southern Nevada is looking for Teaching Assistants to join our team. In this position you will assist with implementing the day-to-day programming of the 21st Century Learning Center at partner elementary schools. This includes assisting with delivering the BellXcel program curriculum, as well as providing homework help, academic enrichment, and family engagement events. The program typically runs from 2:45pm-6:00pm, Monday-Thursday. Some locations may operate on Fridays.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the delivery of relevant and engaging lessons in groups of 12 to 24 students
  • Works closely with supervisors and teachers to develop and implement strategies for student success
  • Prepares and organizes program supplies and tracks student attendance
  • Implements classroom and behavior management strategies to consistently develop a safe and productive learning environment
  • Ensures proper implementation of the YMCA of Southern Nevada’s Youth Development policies and procedures
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Abuse Risk Management Functions

  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with children
  • Attends required abuse risk management training
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
  • Fulfills mandated abuse reporting requirements
  • Follows job specific abuse risk management responsibilities

Provide safe, secure and educational programs at the afterschool site. Impact the overall effectiveness of the association's implementation of the YMCA mission through youth development. Promote a welcoming and inclusive environment for students of all backgrounds, abilities and identities.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.
  • The employee frequently is required to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience facilitating out-of-school-time programming, preferably within underserved communities
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish, preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Academic skills – proficiency in elementary math and literacy
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with diverse populations
  • Ability to build relationships and influence scholars, staff, community members & families
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Love and respect for children
  • Current American Red Cross Certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid (within 30 days of hire)
