After School Assistant Teacher

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable, kind, energetic person who loves school-aged kids (kindergarten through 5th grade). The position is part-time, helping supervise up to 30 children in this age group. The right candidate will be enthusiastic about engaging with children, enjoy working as part of a team, and ideally have experience working with elementary-aged children.

The Neighborhood Learning Center serves children from infant through 5th grade and is an active, friendly, and fun place to work. In 2024, 2025, and 2026, we were the winner of Best of Loudoun for Best Child Care Center.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher in supervising children to ensure their safety on the playground, front field, and in the classroom.
• Oversee homework time and help children with their work if needed.
• Serve snacks.
• Run quick and fun activities before children are picked up, including art projects, games on the playground or field, etc.
• Ensure children pack up all their belongings when their parent/guardian arrives and check them out of our management app.
• Close the classroom when all children have left, including spraying surfaces and putting away toys.

Requirements

• 18 or older.
• Ability to engage in fun activities with kids.
• Team player.
• Reliable transportation.
• Able to bend, twist, and lift up to 30 pounds.
• Energy, enthusiasm, and a sense of fun.

Nice to Haves

• Experience with kindergartners through 5th graders.
• Ability to drive a mini bus (about the size of a 14-person van); no special driver's license needed—we will train you.
• Ability to work full days when Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) are closed but we are open for a School's Out Drop-In day. On these days, you may plan activities such as movies, games, crafts, or experiments, and sometimes chaperone field trips to local venues like bowling alleys or playgrounds.
• Opportunity in the summer to work as part of our summer camp team.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm.
