Job Summary

Best Point Education & Behavioral Health is seeking an After School Assistant to support our school-age childcare programs. The role involves creating a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for children to learn, grow, and thrive. Positions start in August.

About the Role

The After School Assistant works directly with children during after-school hours by leading activities, supporting homework and enrichment opportunities, encouraging positive behavior, and building meaningful relationships with students and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide active supervision of children while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Build positive relationships with children through encouragement, support, and consistent engagement.
  • Support children with homework assistance, recreational activities, and enrichment programming.
  • Use positive behavior support strategies to encourage problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Engage with children in a warm, respectful, and supportive manner.
  • Assist with planning and implementing age-appropriate activities based on children’s interests, abilities, and developmental needs.
  • Help create an organized environment with engaging activity areas and opportunities for learning.
  • Participate in group activities and model positive teamwork and communication.
  • Aid in maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming program space.
  • Develop positive relationships with children, families, school staff, and program team members.
  • Communicate professionally and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Attend staff meetings, required trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Represent Best Point in a professional and positive manner.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Interest in working with children and supporting youth development.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to create a positive and supportive environment for children.

Work Environment

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds. Must be capable of sustained exertion and be able to participate in the physical restraint techniques and exercises required to ensure safety of clients at all times.
