About the role

PIMCO is a global leader in active fixed income, introducing investors to a total return approach in 1971. As active investors, our goal is to deliver superior investment returns, solutions, and service to clients. This 10-week summer internship is located at PIMCO’s Newport Beach, CA headquarters and focuses on financial modeling and qualitative analysis in support of direct lending and special situations/distressed debt investing within private strategies, particularly residential mortgages.

Since launching its first opportunistic credit vehicles over 15 years ago, PIMCO has developed a significant presence in alternative credit and private investment strategies, investing globally across commercial and residential real estate, mortgage credit, performing and distressed corporate debt, and specialty finance markets.

You will work alongside seasoned associates and Portfolio Managers, supporting sourcing, evaluating, underwriting, and managing alternative credit and private strategy investments. Successful interns receiving full-time offers may join a two-year rotational program with potential for a career track in Portfolio Management.

Eligibility

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree
  • Must be able to begin full-time employment at a PIMCO office between January 2028 – August 2028
  • Must be enrolled at a university during the Fall 2027 semester (August 2027 – December 2027)
  • Minimum 3.2 cumulative collegiate GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) at an accredited 4-year college or university
  • Business proficient in English

Responsibilities

  • Conduct financial modeling and qualitative analysis in support of direct lending and special situations/distressed debt investing
  • Support team efforts in sourcing, evaluating, underwriting, and managing alternative credit and private strategy investments
  • Work alongside seasoned associates and Portfolio Managers
  • Participate in PIMCO Fundamentals Training during Week 1
  • Engage in PIMCO's Global Month of Volunteering and cross-divisional education, networking, and social events
  • Gain hands-on experience with AI-powered tools from day one
  • Receive feedback through formal mid- and end-of-summer reviews

  • Skills in conducting research and basic financial modeling
  • Natural intuition for making sound judgments

  • Ability to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications

  • Investment banking sophomore internship experience
  • Curiosity and experience using emerging technologies and AI tools to solve problems and drive outcomes

Pay

Hourly Rate: $52.88

Schedule
