2027 Summer Intern - Legal & Compliance Analyst

About the Role

PIMCO is a global leader in active fixed income, introducing investors to a total return approach to fixed income investing since 1971. As a Legal & Compliance Analyst Intern at our Newport Beach, CA headquarters, you will play a crucial role in ensuring PIMCO's investment and strategic goals align with client guidelines and regulatory requirements.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to work alongside industry experts, gain hands-on experience, and make a tangible impact in the investment management industry. You may specialize in either Investment Compliance or Regulatory Compliance, contributing to critical functions such as monitoring trades, interpreting regulations, reviewing marketing materials, or addressing anti-financial crime requirements.

Responsibilities

• Interpret regulations, code, and monitor trades for over 4,000 public funds and separate accounts (Investment Compliance track).
• Review marketing materials, navigate broker-dealer regulations, address anti-financial crime requirements, or explore other critical regulatory areas (Regulatory Compliance track).
• Collaborate with various departments to maintain compliance and support PIMCO’s strategic goals.
• Develop a keen understanding of relevant regulations and evaluate controls designed to mitigate regulatory risk.
• Engage in ad hoc projects, including resolving inquiries, conducting scenario analysis, AI-based initiatives, and technology testing.
• Complete a specific project involving detailed analysis, proposal development, and presentation to drive meaningful change within the compliance organization.

Requirements

• Pursuing an undergraduate degree.
• Must be able to begin full-time employment at a PIMCO office between January 2028 – August 2028.
• Must be enrolled at a university during the Fall 2027 semester (August 2027 – December 2027).
• Minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) at an accredited 4-year college or university.
• Business proficiency in English.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated interest in financial markets, macroeconomics, investment finance, and/or legal & compliance.
• Exceptional analytical skills, including proficiency in MS Excel, attention to detail, and creative problem-solving.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team, actively contributing ideas and fostering an inclusive work environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
• Proactive approach to problem-solving and achieving goals.
• Curiosity and experience using emerging technologies and AI tools in work or school projects.

Internship Experience

The PIMCO Internship is a 10-week program running from early June to mid-August. Interns participate in:

• PIMCO Fundamentals Training during Week 1 to build skills, knowledge, and relationships.
• PIMCO's Global Month of Volunteering, enhancing the impact of employee volunteer efforts worldwide.
• Cross-divisional education, networking, and social events.
• Guidance and mentorship from supervisors, peer mentors, senior leaders, and teams.
• Hands-on experience with AI-powered tools from day one, with training and resources to build future-ready skills.
• Feedback at mid- and end-of-summer as part of a formal review process.
