2027 Seasonal Social Media Intern (Onsite) (Outer Banks, NC)

About the role

Kitty Hawk Kites is seeking a high‑energy Social Media Intern for a seasonal, on‑site position on the Outer Banks of North Carolina (summer 2027). You will work directly with the Content and Social Media Manager to capture the fun of our kite company, surf shops, Life is Good stores and online stores, producing content that drives sales across all departments. This is a non‑management internship position.

Responsibilities

• Use a mix of DSLR cameras and iPhones to shoot everything from high‑flying kite sessions to beach apparel and lifestyle gear.
• Assist in setting up fun "studio" or lifestyle photoshoots, working with local models and staff to make new arrivals look "cool" and aspirational for the online store and retail.
• Brainstorm ideas to produce 2–3 short‑form videos (TikToks/Reels) a day, including "Day in the Life" clips, employee interviews, and fun Q&As with the kite community.
• Stay on top of the latest sounds and trends on TikTok and Instagram, finding creative ways to make them work for the surf and kite world.
• Get hands‑on experience with the business side of social media—scheduling posts across all platforms, brainstorming holiday campaigns, and helping monitor Meta ads and analytics to see what’s working.

Requirements

• Have a "creative eye" and love finding fun in any situation.
• Comfortable behind the lens, giving ideas, helping direct a shot, or occasionally appearing in a video to show off a new product.
• High‑energy and love being outdoors.
• Happy to be on your feet at the beach, on the dunes or in the shop, capturing the action where it happens.
• Enjoy the fast‑paced nature of social media and can quickly turn raw clips into a fun, polished Reel or TikTok that people actually want to watch.
• Strong attention to detail and good follow‑through.
• Comfortable with numbers, Excel, Outlook and Windows, and quick to learn new software.
• Self‑starter who works well independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication skills and a willingness to learn.
