2026-27 Substitute Teacher, Durango School District

About the role

Durango School District is recruiting licensed substitute teachers for the 2026–2027 school year to work with our students and staff. We are seeking substitutes who are able to work a flexible schedule at multiple locations and in different positions.

Pay

• $185 per day for a full-day assignment
• $195 per day for 3–5 day consecutive substituting assignments
• $265 per day for long-term substitute assignments

Requirements

• Valid Colorado Department of Education teaching license OR a 3- or 5-year Colorado substitute authorization OR a 1-year Colorado substitute authorization with completion of at least one year of post-secondary education
• Experience working with children
• Strong interpersonal communication, basic language, basic math, and basic writing skills
• Minimum of two professional or academic references (family or friends are not accepted)
• Strong computer skills — substitutes must navigate electronic systems independently to accept/decline assignments, maintain schedules, view teacher's notes, and communicate with staff

Qualifications

• Experience in a classroom setting preferred
