Purpose Statement

The job of Parent Liaison II - Safe & Supportive School Grant is done for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for providing information on programs/services available to Spanish speaking students and families as well as school and/or district activities and procedures; facilitating administrative processes; referring families to other agencies; and fostering an ongoing partnership between the home and school.

Essential Functions

  • Assists with the implementation of various programs (e.g. Student Assistance Program (SAP), Positive Behavioral Interventions and support (PBIS), training and parent education relating to the S3 grant, coordinating school performances, student production of video projects, etc.) for the purpose of developing opportunities for students and their families.
  • Affords assistance to social workers/counselors in the referral of students, in consultation with their parents, (e.g. enrolling in school, applications for services, transporting parents/students, interpreting technical information, obtaining medical records, etc.) for the purpose of providing and/or conveying information and other services required by parents or teachers.
  • Attends a variety of meetings (e.g. Safe & Supportive Schools Grant trainings, Student Assistance Program (SAP) training & team meetings, PBIS training & team meetings, School Climate team, Media & Marketing team, Peer Mentor program, etc.) for the purpose of conveying an/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Communicates with parents on behalf of school via school website, school internet radio, community radio & TV broadcasts to the Spanish speaking community (e.g. attendance and homework issues, available programs/services, completing paperwork, etc.) for the purpose of facilitating involvement, attachment & student recognition and ensuring that an ongoing partnership between the school and home is formed.
  • Interacts with community (e.g. business and social services, etc.) for the purpose of developing opportunities for students and their families.
  • Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records (e.g. activity logs, phone logs, community resources, crisis intervention, grant application, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing up-to-date reference and audit trail and/or ensuring the availability of items for loan.
  • Orients students, families and volunteers for the purpose of establishing familiarity with program, services, and required processes.
  • Refers students and their families to outside agencies (e.g. state agencies, medical professionals, counselors, foundations, charities, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the need of students and families are met.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources (e.g. parents, students, teachers, staff, outside agencies, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.
  • Translates written materials and/or forms for the purpose of ensuring that non-English speaking families have a clear understanding of information or services.

  • Knowledge: Community resources and principles of a community services program; concepts of grammar and punctuation; knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability: Scheduling activities, meetings, and/or events; gathering, collating, and/or classifying data; using basic, job-related equipment.
  • Ability: Working with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; working with a variety of data; utilizing specific, job-related equipment.
  • Ability: Establishing and maintaining constructive relationships; adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; working flexible hours; working as part of a team.
  • Responsibilities: Working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; utilizing resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions.
  • Work Environment: Physical Demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 20% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.
