Essential Functions

  • Aids in the planning of bus routes and schedules to ensure all routes are covered.
  • Collaborates with contracted charter busses to determine driver and equipment requirements for additional transportation needs such as field trips and athletic events.
  • Captures busses and drivers for extra curricular activities to ensure transportation coverage.
  • Dispatches drivers to meet schedule demands.
  • Informs school personnel and parents about practices such as rules, regulations, laws, procedures, etc., to provide information for their follow-up action and proper procedures.
  • Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents, files, and records to document activities, provide reliable information, and comply with administrative requirements.
  • Operates a two-way radio in accordance with FCC regulations to gather and convey information.
  • Participates in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc., as required to convey and gather information required to perform job functions.
  • Performs the functions of Transportation Bus Drivers, as needed, to meet student transportation requirements.
  • Processes a variety of materials such as field trip requests, route changes, etc., to update and distribute information, authorize actions, and comply with mandated requirements.
  • Responds to inquiries from students, parents, and/or staff to provide necessary information, direction, and/or resolution.
  • Responds to injuries and/or accidents to comply with established policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Schedules work assignments for bus drivers and bus aides to ensure completion of transportation routes in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with administrative guidelines and legal requirements.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications: Operating two way radio and county emergency radio; operating standard office equipment including utilizing pertinent software applications; performing standard clerical procedures; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of pertinent department policies and procedures; office practices and procedures; concepts of grammar and punctuation; first aid and CPR.
  • Ability: Scheduling a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gathering, collating, and/or classifying data; considering a number of factors when using equipment; working with a wide diversity of individuals; working with similar types of data; utilizing job-related equipment.
  • Responsibilities: Working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; utilizing some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions.

Work Environment

  • Physical Demands: Some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 75% sitting, 15% walking, and 10% standing.
  • Environment: Generally clean and healthy environment.

Experience

Job related experience is desired.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Equivalency

Required Testing Certificates and Licenses: Online Driver Training Certification, Bus Driver's Certificate, Commercial Driver's License, CPR Certificate, First Aid Certificate, Continuing Educ./Training Clearances, CPR Certificate Renewal, Criminal Background Clearance, First Aid Certificate Renewal, MMR Maintains Certificates and/or Licenses, Pre-Placement Medical Clearance, Pre-Placement Physical Capacities Test, Valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Card, www.azdps.gov/services/public/fingerprint.
