2026-27 AY Lecturer Pool - Environmental Studies

We are seeking qualified and experienced instructors to teach lower and upper division Environmental Studies/Science courses, particularly in the following subject areas:

• Introduction to Environmental Science (ENVS 10)
• Environmental Issues and Critical Thinking (ENVS 11)
• International Environmental Issues (ENVS 112 – writing intensive)
• Quantitative Methods in Environmental Science (ENVS 120)
• Environmental Impact Analysis: CEQA and NEPA (ENVS 122)
• Environmental Studies Seminar (ENVS 187)

About the role

Duties include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.

Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires are made when there are instructional needs due to changing enrollment patterns, changes to tenure-track faculty assignments, or other factors. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, though occasionally academic year appointments are made. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance, and are often made just prior to the start of the semester.

Pay

Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

• Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
• Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
• Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
• Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211

The salary ranges are based on a "full-time rate" (15 weighted teaching units [WTUs]). A semester's compensation consists of six payments of the given amount, pro-rated based on the units assigned. For example, a Lecturer A assigned 3 units at the minimum salary would earn $1,101.40 per payment, totaling $6,608.40 for the semester.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, or a related field.

Qualifications

• Previous college-level teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness.
• Experience with undergraduate student research supervision (preferred).
