Temporary part-time position (.25 FTE) at Horizon High School, paid $1,215.50 total ($607.75 per semester).
About the role
The Assistant Cheer Coach designs and implements program activities in accordance with applicable rules and regulations, supervises student athletes during all aspects of participation, and serves as a positive role model to student athletes and the community.
Responsibilities
- Assesses student athletes to provide feedback and determine team placement.
- Attends meetings, workshops, and conferences to receive and convey information.
- Communicates with parents, students, officials, administrators, and the community.
- Instructs student athletes to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Maintains records such as game statistics, insurance forms, permission slips, emergency information, schedules, and equipment inventories to comply with district, athletic conference, and state requirements.
- Manages uniforms, equipment, and school facilities to ensure safety and responsibility.
- Monitors student athletes' academic eligibility to comply with AIA requirements and provide intervention (e.g., counseling, tutoring) as needed.
- Supervises student athletes during all participation areas to minimize injury risk.
- Teaches sports techniques, playing rules, strategies, and tactics to prepare the team for competition.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient work unit functioning.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Job-related experience is required.
- Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (www.azdps.gov/services/public/fingerprint).
- Must be a district-approved volunteer (apply separately for Chaperone/Community Volunteer/Volunteer Coach).

- Providing firm, fair, and consistent discipline.
- Working extended hours, including evenings and weekends.
Schedule
- 1st Semester: July 30, 2026 – December 18, 2026
- 2nd Semester: January 4, 2027 – May 27, 2027
Pay
$1,215.50 total for the position, paid as $607.75 per semester.
Work Environment
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Significant fine finger dexterity required.
- Approximate time distribution: 20% sitting, 40% walking, 40% standing.
- Exposure to temperature extremes and risk of injury or illness.
