Temporary position at Shadow Mountain High School from 7/30/2026 to 5/27/2027. Full-time (1.0 FTE) with a salary of $2,083.00 per month.
Purpose Statement
The Assistant Coach designs and implements program activities in accordance with applicable rules and regulations, supervises student athletes during all aspects of participation, and serves as a positive role model. This role is assigned to a specific sport at the Varsity, JV/Frosh, or Junior High level and reports to the Athletic Director.
Responsibilities
- Assesses student athletes to provide feedback on individual performance and determine team placement.
- Attends meetings, workshops, and conferences to receive and convey information related to the role.
- Communicates with parents, students, officials, administrators, and the community to provide information, assistance, and direction.
- Instructs student athletes to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Maintains records such as game/athlete statistics, insurance, permission forms, emergency information, schedules, and equipment inventories to comply with district, athletic conference, and state requirements.
- Manages uniforms, equipment, and school facilities to ensure items are maintained in a responsible and safe manner.
- Monitors student athletes' academic eligibility to comply with AIA requirements and provide intervention (e.g., counseling, tutoring) as needed.
- Supervises student athletes during all areas of participation to ensure a safe environment with minimal risk of injury.
- Teaches sports techniques, playing rules, strategies, and tactics to prepare the team and individual athletes for competition.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Job-related experience is required.
- Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (www.azdps.gov/services/public/fingerprint).

- Skills: Adapting to changing work priorities; administering first aid; applying pertinent laws, codes, policies, and regulations; organizing and communicating information and concepts.
- Knowledge: Basic math (fractions, percents, ratios); interpreting technical information; writing technical materials; public relations protocols; relevant professional standards; safety practices; injury prevention and treatment protocols; participant eligibility and discipline guidelines.

- Scheduling activities, meetings, or events; gathering and collating data; operating job-related equipment.
- Working independently with diverse individuals and groups in varied circumstances.
- Communicating effectively with persons of varied educational and cultural backgrounds.
- Handling frequent interruptions, meeting deadlines, and working extended hours (evenings/weekends).
- Exhibiting strong leadership, maintaining confidentiality, and enforcing sportsmanlike behavior.
- Motivating student athletes and providing firm, fair, and consistent discipline.
- Analyzing issues and creating action plans; setting priorities.
Work Environment
- Physical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and fine finger dexterity.
- Typical work posture: 20% sitting, 40% walking, 40% standing.
- Exposure to temperature extremes and risk of injury/illness.
