Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalency
- Athletic Coaching License, 7-12 from the New Mexico Public Education Department (how to apply)
- Completion of the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association (www.nmact.org)
Qualifications
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
- Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports)
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and ability to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field
- Ability to serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions
Responsibilities
- Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success
- Demonstrate and instruct behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes
- Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation
- Work with students interested in sports, providing necessary practice support and advice for team success during the sports season
- Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport
- Advise, coordinate, and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal
Schedule
Involves work on evenings and weekends.
About the Role
Reports to the athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals. On-site attendance is mandatory for this position.
The goal of this role is to ensure athletes realize individual and team success while fostering character development, self-discipline, and pride in accomplishment.
