2026-2027 SY - Athletic Coach - 8th Grade Volleyball

About the Role

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize individual and team success. The coach must demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. The role involves organizing and supervising the total volleyball program for 8th grade at John F. Kennedy Middle School.

Responsibilities

• Instruct and develop student athletes in fundamental skills and strategies of volleyball.
• Organize and supervise practices, games, and team activities.
• Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport and school athletics.
• Serve as a role model for student athletes through instruction and actions.
• Examine and implement new theories and procedures pertinent to coaching.
• Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principal.
• Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultations.
• Work evenings and weekends as required for practices, games, and events.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalency.
• Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
• Must complete the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association.
• Previous successful coaching experience in volleyball or a related sport.
• Substantial knowledge of volleyball techniques and strategies.
• Ability to organize and supervise a sports program.

Qualifications

Internal applicants must attach a signed Permission to Coach Form to their application.

Supervision

Reports to the athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals. Supervises assistant coaches and middle school coaches as needed.

Work Environment

On-site attendance is mandatory. The position requires work during evenings and weekends.

Pay

$4,000.00 for the fall sport season.
