Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalency
• Must hold or be able to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7–12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department (application details)
• Must complete the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association (www.nmact.org)
• Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport

Responsibilities

• Organize and supervise the total boys basketball program for 7th grade
• Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success
• Demonstrate and teach socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment
• Serve as a positive role model through instructions and actions
• Maintain substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball and stay updated on new theories and procedures
• Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport
• Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principals
• Upgrade coaching knowledge and skills through clinics, observations, and consultations
• Work evenings and weekends as required for practices, games, and events

About the Role

The head coach reports to the athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in collaboration with the high school principals. On-site attendance is mandatory. The role involves guiding student athletes, ensuring practice support, and preparing the team for a successful season against opposing teams.
