Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalency
- Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department (how to apply)
- Completion of the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association (www.nmact.org)
- Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball
- Ability to examine and implement new theories and procedures pertinent to the field
Responsibilities
- Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training
- Foster individual and team success through skill development and teamwork
- Demonstrate and instruct behaviors that promote socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment
- Upgrade coaching knowledge and skills through clinics, observations, and consultation
- Provide practice support and advice to ensure team success during the sports season
- Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport
- Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principal
- Serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions
Work Environment
- On-site attendance is mandatory
- Work involves evenings and weekends
Reports to: Athletic Director, with evaluations conducted in conjunction with high school principals.
