Status: Temporary – various locations and terms.

Pay

  • Daily Rate: $15.75 per hour
  • Long-term Rate: $16.25 per hour, starting the tenth consecutive day in the same assignment

Note: To maintain the long-term rate, a substitute cannot miss more than three days in the same assignment. Missing more than three days will revert pay to the daily rate.

Pre-employment Conditions

  • Complete an online application
  • Pass a criminal background check ($20.00 fee, applicant’s responsibility)
  • Pass a drug screening ($40.00 fee, applicant’s responsibility)
  • Complete a TB Risk Assessment Form
  • Provide three references
  • Complete HR-related documents (e.g., I-9, W-4, direct deposit) prior to starting work
  • Submit an up-to-date resume (as applicable)
  • Provide a high school diploma or GED

Applicants must be 21 years or older (20 years or older if currently enrolled in a college or university).

About the Role

Perform custodial duties, including minor maintenance, to ensure assigned areas and the main facility are attractive, sanitary, and safe for students, staff, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to read and perform basic math
  • Ability to understand multi-step written and oral instructions
  • Problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and function without distractions
  • Strong stakeholder service skills (students, staff, administration, parents, general public, community agencies)
  • History of professionalism and strong work ethic
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Ability to learn and implement proper cleaning techniques and regimens
  • Ability to learn and perform minor maintenance
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate cleaning and maintenance-related equipment
  • Physical ability to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs and ladders, balance, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, push, and pull
  • Ability to lift and transport objects averaging 50-75 lbs.
  • Significant dexterity of hands and fingers
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model for students, staff, and stakeholders
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience cleaning schools, offices, or municipal facilities
  • Knowledge of the operation and minor repair of heating, cooling, electrical, and plumbing equipment

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the general cleaning and maintenance of the school building based on a predetermined schedule
  • Sweep, mop, wet-wash, and vacuum floors in assigned areas
  • Dust furniture and clean/polish fixtures
  • Keep wastebaskets, chalkboards, and dry erase boards clean
  • Scrub and disinfect toilets
  • Clean sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains
  • Wash windows (inside and outside)
  • Maintain all assigned areas
  • Arrange furnishings and equipment for classroom activities, meetings, and events
  • Perform work at heights up to twelve feet using ladders or scaffolding (e.g., cleaning, changing light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles)
  • Prepare the school facility for daily operations (e.g., opening doors, setting/disarming security systems, raising/lowering flags)
  • Respond to safety and operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, alarms, inclement weather)
  • Identify and report unusual facility conditions or malfunctions in heating, cooling, plumbing, or electrical systems
  • Take appropriate safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Attend and participate in job-related professional development
  • Contribute to the short-term and long-term success of students, staff, and the school system
  • Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor at all times
  • Demonstrate proficiency, flexibility, self-motivation, accountability, and a positive attitude
  • Perform other duties as assigned
