2026-2027 School Year - Special Education Teacher - Autism - Blades Elementary

About the role

This position is located at Blades Elementary for the 2026-2027 School Year. The successful candidate will teach students with autism and develop Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs).

Responsibilities

• Applies strategies and techniques to foster independence, self-reliance and social skills.
• Delivers lesson plans, presentation of learning materials, and conducts instructional exercises.
• Makes observations and monitors student's progress regarding individual educational plans and goals.
• Maintains an orderly, safe, and positive learning environment.
• Assists students with basic personal care activities such as dressing, toileting, and grooming.
• Operates and assists students in the operation of a variety of instructional aids and media and computer-assisted instructional equipment.
• Administers a variety of tests and records results.
• Attends specialized training as required.

Requirements

• Delaware State Certification as: 1573 Teacher of Students with Autism or Students with Severe Intellectual Disabilities.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Special Education or related discipline.
• Additional education requirements: 15 credits in autism and severe intellectual disabilities from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Must provide evidence of successful PRAXIS II scores or a valid out-of-state teaching license.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
• Knowledge of school curriculum and concepts.
• Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
• Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
• Ability to organize and coordinate work.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
• Experience developing and adhering to Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs).
• Experience working with children who can vary from mild to severe disabilities, using specialized techniques to help them reach their goals.
