About the role
This position works collaboratively with lead instructors, classroom teachers, and staff in preschool classrooms or other learning environments. Assists with a variety of instructional support activities to promote social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and academic growth needed for kindergarten. Prepares educational materials and assists in implementing curriculum; communicates/collaborates with families, assesses student development; monitors students' progress, behavior, and safety. Performs routine clerical tasks to support teachers and other district staff.
Responsibilities

- Affords instructional support activities to promote social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and academic growth needed for kindergarten.
- Prepares educational materials and assists in implementing curriculum.
- Communicates/collaborates with families, assesses student development; monitors students' progress, behavior, and safety.
- Performs routine clerical tasks to support teachers and other district staff.
Requirements
- Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university.
- Complete an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.
- Receive a passing score on one of the following PESB approved assessments: ETS ParaPro Assessment, Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment, Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program.
- ECEAP Paraeducators must meet one of the following qualifications: 1) have the equivalent of 12 college quarter credits in early childhood education; or 2) hold an initial or higher Washington State Early Childhood Education Certificate; or 3) hold a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential awarded by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition.
- Possess valid First Aid and CPR Certifications or ability to acquire depending on job assignment.
- Possess Food Handler permit within 90 days of hire.
- Certification of de-escalation and physical restraint training is required for all employees who work in a self-contained classroom.
- Complete a background clearance check, in accordance to WAC 110-06-0040.
- Provide proof of tuberculosis (TB) testing or treatment in accordance to WAC 110-300-0105(3).
- Provide proof of measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) immunization or proof of immunity in accordance RCW 43.216.690.
- Must complete two full days (14 hours) of FCS Training.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience: Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- In addition, a paraeducator must meet one of the following:
- Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

Skills
Previous experience working with students in an educational setting and/or evidence of an interest in supporting learning experiences. Experience working with students with physical or cognitive disabilities and/or behavior challenges or social/emotional issues desirable. Training with cultural, ethnic and language diversity.

Pay
$31.21 to $35.06 (hourly) (2025-26 Classified Support Staff Salary Schedule)
Schedule
Shift Details: 3.25 - 6.5 hours per day, Mon.-Thurs.; Special Calendar (actual number of paid work days depends on start date and schedule)
