Job Summary

To assist the teacher in achieving identified instructional goals.

Responsibilities

  • Aids in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of teachers
  • Aids in the implementation of Individualized Education Plans and related data collection
  • Aids with accommodation of learning environment and materials
  • Aids with implementation of behavior management plans including data collection
  • Provides personal care assistance
  • Collaborates with all professionals including teachers, counselor, speech therapist, social worker, occupational therapist, and physical therapist
  • Auxiliaries with maintaining student records
  • Supports students with emotional or behavior concerns and assists them in developing appropriate social skills
  • Auxiliaries with extra duties related to the supervision of students such as lunch periods, assemblies, field trips, etc.
  • Guides independent study, practice work, and corrective instruction directed by the teacher, collecting appropriate data throughout the process
  • Auxiliaries with preparing instructional materials for classroom use
  • Auxiliaries with individual and small group remediation and instructional support
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information

Qualifications

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a high school diploma
  • Have the ability to work effectively under the direction of others
  • Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
  • Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree; or
  • Met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness).
