About the Role
This position is for a Special Education Generalist in a self-contained high school setting. The teacher will provide instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement IEPs for students with disabilities in a self-contained classroom environment.
- Deliver specialized instruction aligned with Nevada Academic Content Standards (NVACS) and adapted to meet individual student needs.
- Assess student progress through formal and informal evaluations, adjusting instruction as necessary.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families to support student success.
- Manage classroom behavior using positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) and other evidence-based strategies.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including progress reports, IEPs, and compliance documentation.
- Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, professional development, and other required school activities.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment for all students.
Requirements
- Valid Nevada Department of Education license with an endorsement in Special Education (Generalist or equivalent).
- Experience working with students with disabilities in a self-contained or similar setting preferred.
- Knowledge of IEP development, implementation, and compliance with federal and state regulations (IDEA, NRS 388).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, families, and school teams.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning needs.
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and learning in the field of special education.
