Human Resources Generalist

The Human Resources Generalist serves as the face of the Human Resources department and the first point of contact for employees, candidates, visitors, and vendors. This role owns all front desk operations while providing comprehensive support across recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, and HR operations.
The successful candidate will build strong relationships throughout the organization, deliver exceptional customer service, coordinate key HR processes, and ensure a professional, welcoming, and efficient workplace experience. This position requires a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, exercises sound judgment, and maintains the highest level of confidentiality while supporting employees and business objectives.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain relationships with all employees to foster an environment of trust; be a resource to the employees for questions and guidance and follow up on all employee concerns.
- Assist with talent acquisition and recruitment sourcing, interviewing selection, hiring, background and drug screening, and onboarding new employees.
- Support relationships with external recruiting agencies including agency selection and negotiation of agreements, communication about hiring needs, updates on status of open positions, and payment of recruiting fees.
- Ensure consistent explanation of company policies by acting as point of reference for employees and managers; advise management in appropriate resolution of employee issues in accordance with the progressive disciplinary process.
- Assist in the administration of benefits programs such as health, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, PTO, leaves of absence, employee assistance program, and wellness.
- Assist employees in the completion of forms and answer questions related to employee benefits, such as 401(k), tuition reimbursement, educational foundation, and leaves of absence.
- Communicate HR initiatives at employee meetings, on occasion.
- Assist in the management of training and employee development, including the use of Learning LMS.
- Partner with management on employee engagement activities; including facilitation of focus groups and administering employee engagement survey; assist with employee events (e.g., employee activity committee, celebration lunches, open house).
- Other HR projects as assigned.
Front Desk Responsibilities
- Own all front desk operations Monday through Friday 7:30am–4:30pm, ensuring a professional, welcoming, and efficient experience for employees, visitors, and vendors.
- Manage facility access by verifying visitors, issuing badges, coordinating contractor check-ins, and maintaining security protocols.
- Answer, screen, and route all incoming phone calls promptly and professionally, directing inquiries to the appropriate department or team member.
- Coordinate all incoming and outgoing mail, FedEx, UPS, and other courier services.
- Provide administrative support to the Human Resources team by coordinating new hire orientations, arranging travel for external candidates, preparing offer documents and onboarding materials, and ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of HR records and documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Communications, or related area; Human Resources preferred.
- Minimum of two years’ recent and relevant experience in Human Resources, including internship experience.
- Plant-level HR experience in automotive or manufacturing environment preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization.
- Able to handle confidential information.
- Use sound judgment to make accurate and timely decisions.
- Good computer and general business presentation skills.
- Knowledge of employee relations, labor, state and federal employment laws, organization management, safety, and environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to travel occasionally to the company’s South Carolina facility.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, work efficiently, and demonstrate adaptability to changing projects/demands.
