Founded in 1995, KIPP NYC Public Schools is a non-profit network of 18 free, public charter schools in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. We partner with families and communities to create joyful, academically excellent schools where every child grows up free to create the future they want. Our network includes eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, and one high school, serving over 9,400 students and supporting 4,700 alumni. We employ over 1,100 team members dedicated to our mission of college, career, and beyond.

About the Role

KIPP NYC is looking for teachers who combine the ability to motivate and educate, to develop academic as well as character skills, and to make a college preparatory education relevant both now and for the future.

Responsibilities

  • Plan a college preparatory curriculum that combines the school's standards, New York State Standards, and fosters critical thinking.
  • Execute thoughtful, rigorous daily college preparatory lessons.
  • Assess student progress and communicate results to students, families, and colleagues.
  • Provide individual and small group instruction until all students achieve mastery.
  • Model KIPP NYC's character strengths in all interactions and communications with students, families, and staff.
  • Advise a small group of students to succeed through their four years of high school.

Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal skills that contribute to a collegial working environment and a healthy measure of the character traits we value: zest, grit, hope, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor.
  • At least two years of teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  • New York State teacher certification in the appropriate content area is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • A passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture.
  • A strong desire to become a better teacher by joining the KIPP NYC team.
  • Demonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of students within our KIPP NYC communities.

Benefits

  • Robust medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Generous time-off including 5 school vacation weeks, sick and personal days, and an extended summer break.
  • Up to 12 weeks of 100% parental leave.
  • Bright Horizon Back-up Child and Elder care.
  • Employer-paid Life Insurance and Short-term/Long-term disability.
  • Employee incentives including 8 weeks paid Sabbatical after 10 years, annual professional development funds, and tuition reimbursement.

Pay

KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $70,829 - $136,704 per year. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role, NYS initial or professional certification, and longevity within the KIPP network.
