2026 - 2027 - Athletic Coach - 6th Girls Basketball Coach

About the Role

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize individual and team success. The coach must demonstrate behaviors that foster socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. The role involves organizing and supervising the 6th Grade Girl's Basketball program, ensuring adherence to rules and regulations, and providing practice support and guidance for team success during the sports season.

Responsibilities

• Organize and supervise the total sports program for 6th Grade Girl's Basketball.
• Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training.
• Demonstrate and promote behaviors that lead to character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment.
• Enforce rules and regulations of the sport.
• Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principal.
• Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.
• Work with students interested in sports, providing necessary practice support and advice for team success.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalency.
• Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
• Completion of the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association.
• Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport (preferably major sports).
• Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball and a commitment to staying updated on new theories and procedures.
• Ability to serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.

Work Environment

• On-site attendance is mandatory.
• Work primarily involves evenings and weekends during the sports season.

Supervision & Reporting

Reports to the athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals. The head coach may also advise and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches as needed.

Pay

$2,500.00 for the winter sport season.
