201-17 Direct Support Professional

About the role

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for advocating and supporting adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Advocate and support adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Empower individuals to be as active in their lives as they can.
• Support individuals within the group home by performing tasks such as household maintenance, meal prep, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing, and more.
• Aid individuals to their medical appointments, banking, and community activities.
• Administer medications, follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans, and goals, and adhere to medical guidelines.
• Assist in evacuating individuals from the home in case of emergencies.

Requirements

• High School Degree or G.E.D.
• Must be 21+ years old, have a valid driver’s license, and be available by telephone for daily contact.
• Preferred but not required: daily use of a car on site.

• Variety of interests and personal connections in the local community.
• Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer, or school history).
• Ability to work as a creative, engaged, dedicated member of the team.
